Ask a question with enough context.
Describe what you tried, what you expected and what happened instead. Include a small configuration example or the relevant error. Remove passwords, tokens and private details first.
You can help without maintaining a package.
Report a reproducible problem. Test a proposed change. Improve a confusing paragraph. Answer a question you recently worked through yourself.
A small contribution that makes something clearer is worth making.
NixCon, once a year.
NixCon is the annual community conference. NixCon 2026 runs 25–28 September in Kraków. Recordings of past talks are on the NixCon YouTube channel, and schedules with abstracts are in the talks archive.

Where the work happens.
Official spaces are moderated according to the NixOS community standards. The NixOS Foundation publishes its inclusion statement on the community page: participation without regard to gender, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, age or similar characteristics.
Third-party projects set their own rules. Check each project’s own code of conduct rather than assuming it follows the Foundation’s.
